What others think of you is generally dictated by the values embedded in them as youngsters by family, church, etc. People are messed up, progress is a myth, wars hate anxiety and fear will always happen. No one needs everyone... so that leaves lots of room for many as expendable. Word to the wise: consolidate your gains now, rather than end up some solo 40-something traveller everyone at the hostel snickers at behind their back. -Fez

Other people's values and preconceived notions play a role too, but also I think your own attitude may or may not help what they think of you.
